Transportation info

Flight: you are responsible for finding your own flight to Mexico.

Transportation between Cancun Airport and Maya Tulum:

Maya Tulum Shuttle
Maya Tulum has vans that hold 8 people, and cars that hold 3 people.

Let us know if you would like to use the resort service, which will be billed to you upon checkout.

Car Rentals
There are rental car companies, such as Hertz, at the Tulum airport. If you are renting a car and driving to Maya Tulum from the airport you might want to make arrangements in advance. Prices are not much lower than renting a car here.

Directions to Tulum:

  • Take 307 SOUTH when leaving the airport. Drive for approximately 132KM (81 miles).
  • You will see a BIG sign for "RUINS OF TULUM" at the NEXT intersection (stop light); you will see a sign for COBA to the right, and Hotel Zone to the left. (Perhaps 1 KM).
  • Turn LEFT toward the Hotel Zone (if you get to the town of TULUM, you have gone too far). Go 2 KM and this road will end in a "T" - turn RIGHT. This turn will have you running along the ocean.
  • When the paved road ends, Maya Tulum is the first place on the left.
  • The number for the desk in case you get lost or have an emergency is 987-78638.

What to bring with you

  • Your passport
  • Bathing suits
  • Sun glasses
  • A battery-powered reading light if you wish to read after the generator is shut down at 11 pm.
  • Sun screen, sun screen and more sun screen.
  • A lot of yoga clothes. You may end up having to handwash and hang out clothes, but with the humidity they don't dry quickly. The best bet is to bring 5 - 7 full sets of yoga clothes. Laundry service is available at the front desk for a fee.
  • Shampoo, toothpaste, aspirin, and any toiletries you may need.
  • A good book.
  • Maya Tulum recommends bringing approximately $300 - $500 cash/ travelers checks with you for massage ($65 - $90 per session), excursions, taxis, shopping, diving, equipment rentals, food and bar drinks if ordered from the menu (buffet meals are included for our group). Minimal tips have been included in the group rates, but additional tips are allowed as appropriate. More notes about $$$: It's easy to cash travellers checks and Maya Tulum and most places in Tulum accept American dollars. We have found an ATM in town, however, it may or may not accept your card. You will be able to keep your extra cash in a safe at the front desk. One more thing about $$$: When you pay for drinks or massage, you can put it on your room tab. Plan to settle up the night before you leave so you don't have to rush the next morning.
  • Light clothing. It is usally very warm and you will be most comfortable in shorts, skirts, sarongs, t-shirts, very light pants and dresses. However, at night it can get cool and you should bring at least one warm sweater or sweatshirt, a pair of socks and long pants.
  • Bug spray if you plan on going out to the jungle. We haven't found too many mosquitoes.
  • Battery operated alarm clock.
  • Water bottle (There is a big water jug in every room and you can fill your bottle with it. They also sell bottled water at the bar)
  • Camera

What NOT to bring

  • Yoga mats (they have props and mats)
  • Anything that needs refrigeration. There are no refrigerators in the room.
  • Hair dryers and curling irons. This is in the jungle and the resort is powered by a generator that can't take too much abuse.
  • Bed linens or bathroom towels. These are all provided. You will need a beach towel / beach blanket however.

More important and helpful info

Excursions
You can sign up for excursions when you arrive. Those cost extra and will be organized based on your interests once you get to Maya Tulum. These include everything from snorkeling to exploring ruins and the jungle.

Other information
Check-in time is 4:00 pm and check-out time is 11:00 am.

Telephone / fax and an Internet cafe are all available in the village of Tulum. (There are no phones in the room.)

Can I drink the water?

The facilities of Maya Tulum are extraordinarily clean and the water is filtered. I drank drinks with ice and ate everything put in front of me with no ill effect. However, to be very safe, it's recommended you drink only bottled water and bottled beers. Lettuce and any fruits/vegetables that can't be peeled are also more risky. Use your judgement.

You're in the jungle, baby

Please note: Maya Tulum is secluded and located on the beach in the jungle, therefore the area runs on a generator and it is not possible to use phones, TV, hair dryers, irons, etc. The generator is shut down at 11:00 pm each night. Please do not throw toilet paper, feminine products, cigarettes or anything else in the toilets. Wastebaskets are located beside the toilets for your use.
